Statues: supersize me
The “Statue of Unity” in India shows a colossal size: with a height of 182 meters (excluding the base of 58m), since 2018 it is the tallest statue in the world. It represents Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1875–1950), a figure of the country’s fight for independence.
The core of the statue used 6’500 tons of structural steel, and 18’500 tons of reinforced steel. 1’700 tons of bronze was used for outer cladding of the structure, and 200 tons of zinc for galvanization.
