Overfishing is increasing

Pressure on capture fisheries resources is continuously increasing at world scale. The fraction of fish stocks that are within biologically sustainable levels diminished from 90 % in 1974 to 66 % in 2017.

Among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations in 2015, SDG number 14 refers to « Life Below Water » objectives. SDG Target 14.4 was to end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing by… 2020.
